Yep! That's right, Nola's got a bun in the oven... and the timer's almost done! While we won't be adding this one to our product offering—those chubby limbs and cheeks will be much too delicious to share—I've learned a little on this adventure and wanted to share some MUSTS (for me, anyhow!) that have been my saving grace along the way.
Who says you can't wear a horizontal stripe;)
I know you're feeling tired, achy, nauseous and often all-around no freaking good. And I know it's annoying but I'm gonna say it anyways... you know what helps with all three? Getting your tush moving! Whether it's a brisk walk, a swim, yoga class or a HIIT workout—whatever you can muster is going to make you feel a million times better, especially the further along you get. You'll stay limber, release endorphins, counteract those cravings (hehe) and you'll be prepping your body in the best way for the actual birth. At almost 9 months, and the inevitable aching that's setting in, I'm trying to move just as much as ever, and it ALWAYS ends up helping at the end of the day.
Some inspiration I've been using to help me along:
Good for the Swole
Lauren Gleisberg - I just modify for various trimesters!
Fit Pregnancy - for the basics and any questions that creep up, there are bound to be a ton.
*I invested in these and wished I had 3 pairs. With the high waist they've taken me through every phase with total comfort AND I can wear them after too. Buy yourself something nice;)
2. TOPICAL MAGNESIUM
Wellness Mama is a wealth of information and this is one nugget I bow down to her for. It can greatly ease the symptoms of morning sickness, help combat leg cramps (who wants to wake up to charlie the horse!), move along a sluggish digestion—it happens ladies—and promote better sleep. I have actually been using it for years in the topical (and most absorbable) form and can't say enough good things about the benefits.
This one and this one are both great choices.
3. MOISTURE (IZE)
Water. It's gonna be your best friend. That babe is hogging it all for itself and if you don't wanna end up with flaky, dry, itchy skin and possibly scary pre-term contractions (dehydration can cause this), you better stock up! I know, it's a pain when you have to pee every 5 seconds, but it's essential. I believe Zoolander said it best...
In addition to my 10 glasses a day, I also single-handedly kept the coconut farmers in business with my oil use. I opted for the refined version as it has no real scent. Head to toe girls, head to toe. And to seal it in... this Mamma Mio body butter is amazing.
4. RETAIL THERAPY
Let's face it, no matter how your pregnancy progresses, you're not exactly feeling your hottest. I don't know about you, but most of the maternity-wear out there doesn't do much to help the situation... here are some gems I discovered along the way to make me feel a heck of a lot more human without spending silly dollars on something I'm only going to wear for a short time.
J.Crew maternity jeans. Every single woman I've turned onto these never wants to go back to her pre-pregnancy denim. I'm partial to the pull-on kind... and wait for a sale if you can:)
COS tops. I first discovered the retailer on a trip to Paris ages ago and was instantly hooked. The day they finally made it to the US was one of sheer joy for moi. Elevated basics with a twist, these babies are always a good buy and they have a ton of swingy, roomier tops that will take you through most, if not all, of your pregnancy. I have about 3 shirts—bought pre-preggers—that are in constant rotation.
Forever21. Yep, I said it. You could get sucked into the brands doing maternity basics that cost an arm and a leg... or you could spend $10 on a stretchy body-con dress (just go up one size) that will work on it's own or layered under tees, sweatshirts and knits. Heck, you could even splurge and get them in multiple colours;)
It's me! All decked out in my $10 finest, 8 months and counting!
5. FERMENTED COD LIVER OIL
This superfood has come to the rescue to help absorb that magnesium as well as to boost baby's brain and bone development. You can read the nitty gritty here and make sure you pick up a high-quality version. I'm using Green Pastures brand which you can order here.
And that's all that she wrote... for now!
Now go make some babies:)
